WHEN LIFE GIVES YOU LEMONS

Starting every day with warm lemon water is one wellness habit that is a non-negotiable for me. I'm so fanatical about it that I’ve been known to travel with a lemon in my bag and if not, a stop to a local market for a lemon is top of the itinerary when I travel.

Warm lemon water when you first wake up is a great way to rehydrate your body after hours of sleep during which, on average, adults lose about 0.5 to 1 liter of water per night!

The lemon also provides vitamin C (an antioxidant boost that aids in immunity) and it benefits our digestive systems because the lemon provides additional acidity (supplementing stomach acid levels that decline as we age), which helps break down food. So, if you are someone who struggles with bowel movement regularity, I would definitely give this a try!

Not only will it make you feel better, you will look better too. Drinking warm lemon water in the morning helps your skin by promoting hydration, providing antioxidants, and stimulating collagen production as the vitamin C in lemons supports collagen synthesis, which keeps skin firm and elastic. Consider this practice the cheapest beauty treatment in your arsenal!

And beyond the physical benefits, I find that drinking warm lemon water when I first wake is a nice mental grounding practice before the crazy of the day begins.

Note: This is one time I would strongly encourage buying organic since the peel of the lemon (aka the part of a conventional lemon exposed to pesticides) seeps in the hot water.
